(Hi, this is Laini here.) I feel a little sheepish sometimes when I choose a prompt entirely because it's what's on the tip of my own mind, but that's just what I'm doing this week. I hope you don't mind, and besides, I think it's a good prompt!
I'm thinking about "fantasy" because I write fantasy, my forthcoming novel is fantasy, and because tomorrow I will be "appearing" for the first time to talk about fantasy in general and my novel in particular, and I'm nervous! I'm going to the ALA (American Library Association) Midwinter Conference, and this was supposed to be a low-stress toe-dip into the waters of the big book world, just strolling around with my editor meeting librarians and handing out my book galleys at the Penguin booth, BUT. A very prominent fantasy writer had to drop out of a panel discussion at the last minute, and I get to fill in! With two other very prominent science fiction writers, who probably have 100 books between them to my weeny little one. The topic is the rise in popularity of fantasy, and I'm thinking and thinking -- why do I love fantasy? -- and formulating my thoughts for tomorrow. So thanks for playing my game. (Come on, play.)
Why do you love/not love fantasy? Or, what does fantasy mean to you?
Or, as is the way of Sunday Scribblings, write about anything that the word 'fantasy' puts into your mind. Have fun, and wish me luck!

Laini, thanks for this topic. Hope your panel discussion / presentation went well. I am sure that it did! I am certain much was learned by all.
ReplyDeleteHere's my response to what you asked, I hope. Anyway I enjoyed the reminiscence involved in writing it, and I am going to reread some of the books I talked about. You would love Tales from the Enchanted Isles. The illustrations, only one precious full page picture per story, remind me very much of your drawings.
