I spent a significant part of my childhood visiting hospitals. It is not something have ever written about at great length. I am not sure my blog is the right forum to do so. So, please indulge me for a few moments while I share my hospital prompt here.

My dad was not a well man. He was afflicted with diabetes and heart disease, suffering a massive heart attack before I was born, another when I was four, and a final one just after my twelfth birthday. As the youngest of 11 children, he was the only sibling to make it to the age of 60 -- barely.

I can recall many Sloppy Joe and over cooked mash potato dinners spent at hospital cafeterias, sitting next to my older brother, studying for a math or science test the next day.

The concept of mortality was lost on me as a twelve year old. I just knew I wanted Pop home, to be happy and healthy again; to play catch with me, teach me how to play poker, or just share some laughs.

Despite his unyielding pain, he always maintained a cheerful disposition, finding humor in his and our darkest hours. We kept as all laughing, cracking jokes and keeping our spirits up.

In some ways, those dreary school nights and longs weekends at the hospital were the highlight of my youth. The time spent within the cold sterile walls that housed disease and misery, were filled with immense warmth, love and laughter.

In that spirit of humor being the best medicine, I'm linking to a recent post I made that I hope will be good for a for healing laughs.

Hello,

Do any of you have contact information for Cynthia of Sorting the Pieces (http://acrazyquiltlife.blogspot.com/)?
Her blog has been silent since October 2, she has not responded to email to her yahoo account (the one on her profile). I am concerned about her, and know that a number of her other readers are as well.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Peace,

Mags
