#23 - Fortune Cookie

You can write your own fortune or tell a story of one that came true or didn't. What comes to you? What are you fortune cookie memories and imaginings?

Another nag about permalinks: if you have a blogger account, your "link" will look like this:

http://sundayscribblings.blogspot.com/

but your PERMALINK will look something like this:

http://sundayscribblings.blogspot.com/2006/08/sunday-scribblings-22-monster.html

MOST of you are doing it right, so thank you! Any new contributors, welcome! Just leave your permalink in the comments.

Thank you so much for clarifying the difference between a link and a permalink. I had NO idea! As a matter of fact, in my computer illiterate mind, I would have assumed just the opposite: that the "Perma (as in permanent)link" would be the basic blog address and that the one with all that extra info would be the specific or individual "link." Is the 08, then, the month?? So I am also assuming, if posted after today--and I am NOT ready now, I just found you had already posted the new prompt---I would need to write 2006/09 (for September)then a / then the "fortune cookie" title. I promise to do better when I post this weekend. Thanks again for the explanation with examples!!!! Cynce

“It's not advisable to leap before you look, but that may be all you have time for.”

That is the perfect fortune for me. Everything around me is going full force forward. In this real-time world, I even find myself getting upset if fast food isn’t fast. I sometimes get so busy with all the demands I have on my time, I rarely take a minute to stop. I remember when my life wasn’t so hectic. I remember when sleeping in was a luxury instead of a guilt trip. I remember when I could decide what I wanted to do. Now my life revolves around everyone’s schedule. At work deadlines keep workflow going forward, multiple projects require multi-tasking, e-mail, phone and instant messenger, links to projects, it is endless of how we share information. Looking for an actual manila file is frustrating because that information involves leaving my desk, and if someone can’t catch me at my phone… the endless paging over the intercom is enough to make your ears bleed. If the boss puts that intercom in the bathroom, I really don’t think I could take it. Those are precious minutes without my headset.
At home, even household chores have to be done in real time. Someone needs clean socks, the diswasher needs to be unloaded and loaded. Dinner is made in 10 min. or less. The yard has to be cut before it gets dark. The meeting is at 6:00 PM. Practice starts at 7:00. Homework check at 9:00. Even with these little blocks of time they are interrupted by chats with the neighbors as I walk out of the house, or a phone call, or a reminder on the fridge telling me I forgot something.

I tried not to get caught up in the gadgets of today, I try to turn my phone off at night. I don’t have a crack-berry, I answer my personal e-mail only once a week. I am desprately trying to get back some of “my time.” I used to be laid back, I used to know what I could accomplish in a day. I used to not have to say “today is not impossibe.,” Or “I can have that there overnight.” I am leaping before I look. I am in a constant state of fast forward. I think everyone is. The time I get to sit down and read a book or watch a movie cuddled on the couch with the one I love, that is my favorite time that doesn’t get to move in fast forward.
