I may come back to this prompt - which is fantastic - later; I'm working and need to get into the office. But for now, I leave you with an American Sentence:
this week i didn't write for the prompt of the site i cannot believe it everybody go to sweem i am left outside. mabye next week i can do it yes i believe i might
The word belief (or believe) has always been a difficult and troubling concept for me, and continues to be. Belief has so often been used, through the ages, to manipulate people to their grave disadvantage.
It is still used today, in very ominous ways, to advance predatory fundamentalist agendas.
If one can get another to embrace a belief (belief system), the one can exercise great control over the other -- a situation I find, not just dangerous at the least, but abhorrent at the extreme.
I do occasionally use the term "colloquially" in writing fiction or poetry, and perhaps shouldn't -- but my feelings about the term are always present in my mind.
I understand that this prompt, "I Believe", was put forth in a most innocent and well-meaning way, and I am in no way finding fault -- but I do not now, nor will I ever, take the word believe lightly.
That's my two 'very personal' cents worth... ...rob ;)
Every Saturday (or thereabouts!) we'll post a writing prompt. (No, not on Sunday because then you can post your writing on Sunday!)
You create a piece of writing inspired by that writing prompt.
You post your writing on your blog and leave a comment here to let us know you have participated. (Please try to leave us the perma-link to the actual post if you can!)
We'll publish the links here for people to follow and read!
Need some suggestions?
You could try: a piece of timed writing, a poem, a story, a song, a piece of prose, a list - anything to get your pen moving!
